Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev won his first championship for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid period, achieving just a single victory at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's initial trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface since that period of that year.

Success also indicates he has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 different events.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my children together, so to get a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six finals, including in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play assertively, supported by an improved serve.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden tour championship, took control to create a third set.

The opponent rescued four early opportunities in a close third set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
